A Hat's the Luck St. Patrick's Day Tablescape

March 10, 2026 by Beth Wilson in Tablescapes

I started thinking about this tablescape a few months ago and I finally pulled it all together this week. I have done so many shamrock themed St. Patrick’s Day tablescapes that I wanted to do something different this week. To see the ten other St. Patrick’s Day tablescapes that I have created as well as the 300+ other themed tablescapes that I have done, please click this link to my blog, https://www.whispersoftheheart.com/tablescapes . I found the leprechaun hat tablecloth at Spoonflower online. I keep saying that their tablecloths are too expensive and I am not going to buy them anymore but no other store has the wide selection of designs that they do. I have been inventorying my collection of vintage tablecloths from the 1940’s and 1950’s lately and rationalizing that my Spoonflower tablecloths will last that long too. Maybe someday some of my future great-granddaughters will fight over them…I can only hope!

I looked for a salad plate with a leprechaun hat on it for weeks with no luck. So I did what I often do and I found small green leprechaun hat cabochons on Etsy to put on a green and white salad plate. These ceramic green and white plates were made by Grace Teaware and I bought them at HomeGoods last year. I have set small items on a salad plate before when I couldn’t find the right plate design to carry out my theme.

These white dinner plates are made by Fiesta and I bought them online somewhere. I think I have Fiesta dinner plates in just about all the colors that they sell now. They introduce a new color every year and I am waiting to buy some dinner plates in their new Lavender color later this month. Fiesta dinner plates are perfect to use as a solid color plate on your plate stack. If you read my blog you will see them often.

Hubby bought these resin chargers at the Dollar Store a couple of years ago and then spray-painted them Kelly Green for me so that I could use them on a Christmas tablescape. This is such an easy and inexpensive way to find a charger to match your tablescape design. I have Dollar Store chargers now in several colors that Hubby has painted for me.

I wanted another set of black flatware that was all black and different from my Ginkgo International LePrix black flatware set to use on my Halloween tablescapes and I found this set a few years ago on sale at Macy’s online. It was made by Lenox and the pattern is called Portola. I love the simple design and the shiny black color. You can read my blog post about what to consider when you are buying flatware here.

I can’t remember where I bought these green cotton napkins but I love the primary green color. When I am looking for tablescaping items to use on a themed tablescape I often search Etsy online. I like to support small family owned businesses and I often find just what I am looking for on that site. I found these small crocheted leprechaun hats there. I just love them! I attached them with masking tape temporarily to a white ceramic napkin ring that I have. To read about the What, Where, and How of napkin rings please click here.

I found these small felt leprechaun hats on Etsy as well. I set them on a small white place card holder house that I had to make them a bit taller. To read about the what, where, and how of place card holders, please click here.

These green glass goblets and iced teas are made by Mosser Glass in the United States. The pattern is called Arlington and the color is Hunter Green. They are really heavy glass and very good quality. I have bought a few pieces at a time over the years online where I can find them at the lowest price. I also have this pattern in red and cobalt blue. You can read my blog post about what to consider when you are buying goblets for your tablescaping collection including the colors that I use most often here.

I bought these Luminara flameless pillar leprechaun hat candles at Luminara online. I love Luminara candles, the flame on real candles has always made me feel very nervous about fires so I loved it when these flameless candles were invented. Besides, there is no problem with melting wax!

I found this leprechaun hat stack resin statue at HomeGoods and I was so delighted when I saw it. I knew it would be a perfect centerpiece on this tablescape! I love the stacked hats and the gold coins. It adds a bit of whimsy to the table.

I have been thinking about my mother today. She would have loved this tablescape. She liked to entertain and friendships were important to her. Once she made a friend, she kept them for her entire life.

A Golden St. Patrick's Day Tablescape

March 04, 2026 by Beth Wilson in Tablescapes

This St. Patrick’s Day tablescape is a substitute for one that I was planning to do but had to postpone because one of the key elements for it hasn’t arrived yet. I finally gave up and gathered a different theme. I really need to start planning earlier! I came up with the idea for this tablescape just a few days ago. I bought the Martha Stewart tablecloth at HomeGoods a few years ago and this is the first time that I have used it on a tablescape. I really like the gold band on the tablecloth, it is a good match for the gold elements on this tablescape. You can see my 10 other St. Patrick’s Day tablescapes that I have done together with 300+ other themed tablescapes of mine on my blog here: https://www.whispersoftheheart.com/tablescapes

I bought these Obrarte Shamrock ceramic salad plates on Ebay, a few at a time as I saw them over the years. I think that they are a good match for this tablecloth.

This is my favorite green dinner plate. It was made by Fiesta and the color was called Shamrock. That color has been discontinued now. I use this plate often during the year on tablescapes. I love the bright green color. I probably bought them at Macy’s online, I have had them for a long time.

I found these resin type bright green chargers at Michaels a few years ago I think.

The gold plated flatware on this tablescape was a gift from Hubby a few years ago. I had bought a cheap set of gold flatware several years ago. It was poor quality and the gold started flaking off. You get what you pay for! We found this set on major sale at Macys. It is made by Wallace and it is called Mikasa Duchess Gold. It is heavy and I love the elegant design on the handles. You can read my blog post about what to consider when you are buying a flatware set here.

I think these green cotton napkins probably came from Pier 1 or HomeGoods several years ago. I found the plastic gold coins on Amazon a few days ago. I just attached them temporarily with masking tape to a white ceramic napkin ring that I have had for a long time. To read about the What, Where, and How of napkin rings please click here.

I bought these small plastic black kettles probably at Oriental Traders or Amazon online several years ago. I was going to use them on a Witch themed Halloween tablescape but I never did. I remembered that I had them and pulled them out. I found the tiny gold coins on Amazon a few days ago and Hubby packed the kettle for me with paper so that we could just spread them across the surface. I should have bought more! To read about the what, where, and how of place card holders, please click here.

The gold Poly/Carb goblet on the left was made by Le Cadeaux and the pattern is called Fleur. We found them at a gift shop on one of our trips up the California coast a couple years ago but they were really expensive so we only bought a few of them. I had been looking for that color for a long time and after we got home, I found them much cheaper online so I bought a few more. The green plastic goblet on the right came from Pier 1 several years ago. If you read my blog, you have seen this goblet before a few times. You can read my blog post about what to consider when you are buying goblets for your tablescaping collection including the colors that I use most often here.

I bought this large ceramic black kettle at Crate and Barrel online several years ago to use at Halloween. I put a towel in it so that I wouldn’t need to fill it with as many gold coins. I found the gold coins on Amazon a few days ago.

I searched for leprechaun with kettle on Amazon a few days ago and these small figures popped out. They were just what I needed for this tablescape!

Leprechaun Shenanigans on a St. Patrick's Day Tablescape

March 04, 2025 by Beth Wilson in Tablescapes

It’s time for a couple of St. Patrick’s Day tablescapes. I create at least one every year. I spent some time recently photographing and inventorying all my St. Patrick’s Day tablescaping items and putting them in folders on my computer and I feel really good about that! I finally have a record of everything that I have in one place. I bought this green tweed tablecloth on Amazon several years ago.

I found these polymer leprechaun dinner plates on Etsy a few weeks ago. I love cute leprechauns and these guys were exactly what I wanted for this tablescape. All the graphics on the plate are wonderful. I didn’t use a salad plate so the entire dinner plate could show.

These chargers were made by Mikasa and the pattern was called Color Spectrum, this one in Hunter Green. I have several different colors of this charger and I really love the size, design, and shape. They have all been discontinued but I bought them all on Ebay a few at a time over the years as I saw them.

Every time I use this flatware set I get questions about it. It is labeled Helmick/O.M.C. and the pattern is called Celtic Crusader. It is 18/10 stainless and it is really heavy and great quality. I have learned to buy 18/10 stainless because with cheaper quality flatware sometimes the fork tines have not been filed and they are really sharp. When I can, I always test flatware by touching the fork tines to see what they feel like before I buy the set. I love the way this flatware looks and it is perfect for a St. Patrick’s Day tablescape. I can’t remember where I bought it several years ago but you can find it online. You can read my blog post about what to consider when you are buying flatware here.

I found these lucky green napkins at HomeGoods last year. The label says cupcakes and cashmere. I found these metal enamel leprechaun napkin rings on Amazon last year. They have a cute design, I like happy faces. To read about the What, Where and How of napkin rings please click here.

A few years ago I wanted a leprechaun place card holder so I looked on Etsy for leprechauns to see if there was anything there that I could use. I found this wood leprechaun and I loved the design. I can’t remember where the place cards came from. To read about the What, Where and When of place card holders, please click here.

The goblet on the left was made by Cristal D’Arques-Durand between 2001 and 2008 and the color was called Antique Emerald. They have a pressed glass diamond and fan pattern. This goblet has been discontinued but you can find them online on the secondary market at various sites. I can’t remember where I bought mine. I have this goblet in red as well and I use it often. The green glass goblet on the right came from The Vermont Country Store online. These goblets are made in the United States by Mosser and the pattern is called Georgia. They are really heavy glass and they are very good quality. I have bought a few at a time over the years and I have them in green, red, and blue now. You can read my blog post about what to consider when you are buying goblets for your tablescaping collection including the colors that I use most often here.

I was just about to leave HomeGoods a few weeks ago and I saw this cute leprechaun and I grabbed him. I set him on a small green cake stand that I found at HomeGoods a few years ago. The small metal green shamrocks on the stand are actually bells, I can’t remember where I found them a few years ago.

I like to add small items on each side of the centerpiece on my tablescapes to add a bit more interest to the table setting and fill the empty spaces. I bought the two taller resin leprechauns a few years ago somewhere but I don’t remember where. I like their cute faces and all the detail, gold buckles and all! The smaller one is actually part of a set of Santas that I have that I bought many years ago. He is called Four Leaf Crinkle Claus by Possible Dreams but I keep him with my St. Patrick’s Day decorations. On the other side of the table is Shamrock Crinkle Claus.

Four Leaf Crinkle Claus by Possible Dreams, he was probably made in 1999.

Shamrock Crinkle Claus by Possible Dreams, he was probably made in 1998.

Shamrocks on a St. Patrick's Day Tablescape

February 28, 2024 by Beth Wilson in Tablescapes

I obviously needed to create a Shamrocks tablescape this time of year. I think that this shamrocks tablecloth came from HomeGoods a few years ago. I love tablecloths that show things in their true colors and not some weird shade of that color or another color completely.

I found these melamine shamrock small salad plates at Wayfair online two years ago. They are the perfect green color. When I did a Shamrock tablescape before, I called a four leaf clover a shamrock and someone corrected me. Three leaves is a shamrock and four leaves is a four leaf clover.

I am using my go-to basic white dinner plate on this table setting. Every tablescaping collection needs at least one basic white dinner plate. This plate is labeled Club Porcelain, Ralph Lauren. I found them at HomeGoods several years ago.

Hubby bought these chargers at the Dollar Store last year and spray-painted them Kelly Green for me so that I could use them on my tablescapes. We have done that a few times before when I needed a certain color and I didn’t have a charger the right color.

I am using my Celtic flatware again on this tablescape as I did last week. This flatware set is labeled Helmick/O.M.C. and it is called Celtic Crusader. I have also seen it under the brand, Ginkgo International. It is 18/10 stainless and I have learned to buy 18/10 stainless because with cheaper quality flatware sometimes the fork tines have not been filed enough and they are really sharp. I always test flatware by touching the fork tines to see how sharp they are. 18/10 flatware is heavy and really well made but it is more expensive. I love the way this flatware looks and it is perfect for St. Patrick’s Day. I can’t remember where I bought it after I saw it on another blog. I bought a few place settings at a time online over several months. I think that the hammered design and the shape of the end of the handle really illustrate the Celtic style.

I found these lucky napkins at HomeGoods a few weeks ago. I was lucky to find them for this tablescape! Their label says cupcakes and cashmere.

I bought this four leaf clover place card holder on Amazon a few weeks ago. I already had the place cards, I can’t remember where they came from.

I was wandering around HomeGoods last month with Hubby and he was getting in line to pay. At the last minute I suddenly saw this shamrock tree. I immediately picked it up and took it over to him. He took one look at my face and he knew it was going home with us. Smart man! He is the kind of person who will ponder a purchase forever and I am the kind of person who knows immediately if I want something or not, especially things for tablescapes. As soon as I saw this tree I visualized the tablescape design (with a few tweaks).

Because the centerpiece is tall and narrow it needed something else on each side of it. I had just bought these green glass taper candle holders at Sur La Table online. Even though they are not quite the same shade of green glass as everything else on the table, they work. Hubby cut a couple of white candles that I had shorter for me so I could use them. The candlesticks are a delicate thin glass. Sur La Table had them in a pretty bright blue color too so I bought those as well.

I added a Hunter Green Mosser Glass Panel salt and pepper set to the tablescape and a White Mosser Milk Glass Panel salt and pepper set as well.

We are ready for a St. Patrick’s Day dinner!
