A Red Barn Tablescape for Fall

I love old barns and I especially love old red barns. I drove across the country and back several times over the years and I also took the train back and forth a few times too. (I love road trips and riding trains and I don’t fly.) I would always be fascinated by all the wonderful old barns I saw along the way. This tablescape is a tribute to all of them. I have had this green tablecloth for several years, I bought it on Amazon. I love this color for a Fall tablecloth or for Thanksgiving. I used it on one of my Thanksgiving tablescapes some years ago. It is a green tweed color and it is perfect for the Fall season. (This tablescape is a repeat of one that I did a few years ago. From time to time I repeat tablescapes that are favorites of mine for new readers.)

I had seen these red barn plates several times over the years and when I started looking for barn salad plates, they popped up and I knew I wanted to develop a tablescape around them. I bought four of them at Mercari online and three more at Replacements, Ltd. online a few years ago. The designs were copyrighted in 1998 by Warren Kimble for Sakura, New York and the series was called Barns. The salad plates were made between 1998 and 2002 and there were four different barns in the series.

This green stoneware dinner plate came from Pier 1 several years ago. It was part of their Spice Route series and each color was named a different spice. This one was called Clove. I love this plate for Fall and Thanksgiving tablescapes and if you read my blog you see it often during those times of the year. This charger was made by Juliska Ceramics and the pattern was called Berry and Thread, color Ruby. I like plates with interesting rim designs because it adds something unique to the plate stack. I bought these chargers a few chargers at a time over a couple of years several years ago until I had the number I needed. I can’t remember where I bought them but it was online and probably from several different sites. This charger is a deeper red, almost a brick red. These charger plates are no longer in production. This green flatware is called Madeline Green and I bought it at World Market several years ago. I use this flatware often during the Fall season and into Thanksgiving time as well. I love the frosted handle. You can read my blog post about what to consider when you are buying flatware here.

These barn napkins were made by a seller on Etsy who has made napkin sets for me several times over the past few years, Meg from ME2Designs. When I can’t find napkins to match my tablescape theme I contact Meg and tell her what I am looking for and she finds samples of fabrics and sends me photos to choose from. I told her I wanted barns and she found this fabric and it was perfect for this tablescape. I love all the different barns that are shown and I see an outhouse too! The metal red barn napkin rings were a challenge. I ordered them from one place online and they were suddenly on back order. Then I ordered them from another place online and suddenly they were on back order there too. I finally found them at Walmart online a few years ago and I bought them there. My daughter-in-law gave me these cute tree place card holders. She used them for a themed party for my son several years ago and then said I could have them. But she has started tablescaping too so I found a set for me and I will return them to her so she can use them. To read about the what, where and how of place card holders, please click here.

I bought the green acrylic goblet on the left a few years ago online at Home Depot. Home Depot sells tablescaping items. They are made by Certified International. I looked for a long time for a red barn cookie jar and I finally bought this one online at Country Village Shoppe a few years ago. It needed more height so it is sitting on a couple of my green Depression Glass bowls.

I suddenly remembered this red barn that I received as a gift several years ago and I added it to the tablescape. It was part of Jim Shore’s Heartwood Creek collection and it was called Red Barn, Strength And Plenty. He copyrighted the design in 2004 and it was licensed by Enesco.

To balance the table, on the other side of the centerpiece, I added a Mosser Glass red salt and pepper set that I bought online at The Vermont Country Store a few years ago.

We plan another trip across the country maybe next year sometime, more barns to see!

Apples on a Fall Tablescape

Hubby found this red apple cookie jar at an estate sale last year and I knew it would work as the centerpiece for an apple themed fall tablescape.

This apples tablecloth came from Spoonflower online. It is such a cheerful tablecloth!

After a google search I found these melamine red apple shaped salad plates online at TraditionsJewishGifts. They were exactly what I was looking for to use on this tablescape.

I have this Fiesta dinner plate in several different colors now. This color is called Shamrock but it has been discontinued. You can find this color online from time to time on the secondary market. It is one of my favorite shades of green to use on tablescapes. You can read about what you need to think about when you are buying dinner plates here.

This charger came from the Dollar Store earlier last year and Hubby spray-painted it red for me. I can’t remember what the original color was. To read about what you should be considering when you are buying chargers, please click here.

I found these wood apples on Ebay last year. They were more of a burgundy color but Hubby repainted them bright red for me.

A red and green color combination is one of my favorites! I love the contrast between those colors on this table setting! The green goblet on the left came from Macy’s a few years ago. The name is Qualia Glass Meridian. I like the height and the beautiful green color. Hubby found the red glass goblets on the right at an estate sale several years ago. I think they are hand blown Iris Ruby Red Bubble Glass Goblets made by Artland. You can find them for sale online from time to time. Hubby found this red apple cookie jar at an estate sale earlier a few years ago. I love the bright red color! It’s sitting on a green drink dispenser stand from Pottery Barn that I have had for many years.

Cows on a Summer Tablescape

Yes, I know, this is a different kind of tablescape but I like something different once in a while. After I did a Farm Animals tablescape last year and a Goat tablescape this Spring I decided to create a Cow tablescape. I knew I wanted to use Holstein cows and my daughter suggested the tablecloth design and I found an Ambesonne Cow Print tablecloth on Amazon. The whole thing makes me smile when I look at it!

I wondered if I would be able to find salad plates with Holstein cows on them and I found these plates on the Replacements, Ltd. web site. When they arrived and I saw the burgundy accent color more clearly I knew what color the charger and the napkins should be. The plates are labeled Fannie’s Farm and they were made by Century.

This black dinner plate was called Fun Factory and it was made by Waechtersbach in Germany. I have had them for several years, they probably came from HomeGoods. A black dinner plate was one of the first plates I bought when I started tablescaping and I use it often. You can read about what you need to think about when you are buying dinner plates here.

This is Mikasa’s Color Spectrum charger in the color Burgundy. They don’t make them any more but you can find them on the secondary market from time to time. If you read my blog you have seen this charger pattern in other colors as well. I love these chargers, they are well made and heavy. I wanted another set of black flatware that was all black and different from my black Ginkgo International LePrix set and I found this set on sale at Macy’s online last year. It was made by Lenox and the pattern is called Portola. I love the simple design and the shiny black color. You can read my blog post about what to consider when you are buying flatware here.

Although Hubby mumbles about tablescape storage, he is often a partner in crime. He likes to go to estate sales and garage sales and he found these Holstein cow napkin rings at an estate sale last month and brought them home. Lucky for me! He knows I have a weakness for napkin rings. I didn’t have any burgundy napkins so I found these Dine n Decor cotton napkins on Amazon last month. I couldn’t find any Holstein cow place card holders so I decided to use these Holstein cow napkins rings that I used on my Farm Animals tablescape last year. I love that cute little face! I found these Holstein cow napkin rings on Ebay last year.

The goblet on the left with the black bowl and clear stem was made by Classic Touch and is called V-Shaped Water Glass, Black With Clear Stem. I bought them at Houzz online a couple years ago. I have very very tall white goblets but I had been looking for shorter ones for a long time. I finally found these white goblets at Walmart two years ago. They were made by Artland and the pattern is called Veranda. This Holstein cow cookie jar was made by Certified International and the design was copyrighted by Danielle Murray. I actually got lucky and found it on Amazon after googling cow cookie jar last month. The chicken is an added bonus! The cow blended in too much on the tablecloth so I set it on a green crocheted placemat that I have had for many years. Looks like grass to me! Lol!

I found this Boston Warehouse Holstein cow butter dish on Amazon at the same time and set it on the table too.

This DII Design cow salt and pepper set came from Amazon also last month.

Holstein cows originated in the Netherlands approximately 2,000 years ago. The Internet says that California has the most number of Holstein cows but I am not sure that is true. Holstein cattle are the most prominent of the seven major dairy breeds in the United States. Cows of Holstein descent make up over 90% of the cows on U.S. dairy farms. Interesting!

Grandma's Depression Glass on a Summer Tablescape, and her Tablecloth too!

I am reposted a tablescape for summer that I did before a couple of times because I really like it. This table setting started out going one direction and ended up going another. I wanted to do a tablescape with some of my collection of Depression Glass and I put together a table that was just green and white…and it looked boring. So I decided to add red geraniums as a second theme. I have done red and green tables before many times and I love that color combination. I started with a vintage geranium tablecloth. It still has a faint label that says Harmony House, Sears, Robuck and Co.. I love this tablecloth, it is heavy and the colors are bright. It isn’t quite large enough so I layered it over a white one. I already had the faux red geraniums.

This Depression Glass pattern is called Circle and it was made by the Hocking Glass Company in the 1930’s. My grandmother gave me five of the tall sherbets after I was married and I put them away for several years. I found a few other matching sherbets and I bought them to add to the set. After we bought a house I brought out the ones I received from my grandmother and realized that they were all chipped and too sharp to be used so I had to trash them. But I already had a few others and, of course, I started looking for more. It was fun knowing that it was a pattern my grandmother had used. Circle was one of the least expensive Depression Glass patterns in those days and it was fun to look for pieces when I was out and about.

This table setting is a bit odd I know but I wanted to use different pieces from my set. The dinner plate is small, about 8 1/4” across, I have never found a larger plate in this pattern. I put a shorter sherbet on top of the plate. The ones I received from my grandmother originally were the taller ones.

I started out with green flatware and it just didn’t add anything to the table so I pulled out this set. I only put one fork on the table. With the plate so small it didn’t seem to need two. This Milano Red flatware is Ginkgo International LePrix. I have had this set for years but it is still for sale. Not sure where I bought it. I use it several times a year on tablescapes.

I bought the geranium napkins at Sur la Table a few years ago. They aren’t an exact match colorwise for the tablecloth here but they are close enough. The plastic Koziol Pip Bird napkin ring in red came from Ebay several years ago, I have it in green also.

I added a green goblet and a tumbler to the table. I have both in smaller sizes as well.

I read somewhere that cups and saucers aren’t supposed to be placed on the table until after the meal is over but I wanted to show them so here they are. I have two different cup styles, this one is more rounded than the other one.

I really like this green glassware. I need to use it more often. It’s amazing when you think about how old it is that it has lasted this long.

At some point I found a cream and sugar, I like the tallness and the shape of them.

I looked for a salt and pepper set in this pattern for several years until I finally found these. I am not sure they are actually the Circle pattern but they sure look like it.

I wanted to add a bit more red so I added this red Fiesta salt and pepper set from our everyday dishes.

I was still looking for a bit more red to add and I saw these in the cupboard. They were made by Terramoto Ceramic and I think I found them in a gift shop somewhere. Yes, I know, if you read my blog, you know I have a thing for red…

The centerpiece started out as some of the serving bowls from this pattern on top of each other with white flowers in the top one but when I added red geraniums to the table I used this pitcher instead because I remembered I had the faux red geraniums. I love pitchers, I have several of them.

I caught the morning sunlight coming in on the edge of the table when I took this photo. You can see where the smaller vintage tablecloth ended with the white one underneath. It is interesting to think about how collections and possessions develop. I have this set of Depression Glass because I was given a few pieces by my Grandmother and it all started with that.
