A SchoolHouse Tablescape for Fall

September 08, 2021 by Beth Wilson in Tablescapes

I have been thinking about creating a schoolhouse themed tablescape for some time. It took me a while to gather what I wanted together and I am still not completely satisfied with it. September always reminds me of my years serving on the local school board while my children were in school. I found the tablecloth at HomeGoods a few years ago.

2021.08.28a.jpg

I looked forever for a salad plate with a schoolhouse on it and I couldn’t find one that I liked. I saw this handmade card on Etsy and decided to use it instead. It could be a party favor to take home after your back to school celebration. The detail on these cards is amazing.

2021.08.28b.jpg

These black plates are smaller than most of the salad plates I have used recently on my tablescapes. They are called tidbit plates or appetizer plates. These plates were made by 10 Strawberry Street and the pattern was called Classic Black Porcelain. I bought them at HomeGoods several years ago. I have basic black plates in several different sizes and shapes and I use them often.

2021.08.28c.jpg

I was thinking about my plates a few weeks ago and I realized that I only had one beige melamine dinner plate in my collection so I decided to look for another beige plate in a different style. I found these dinner plates at Pottery Barn online. They are called Mason Stoneware and the color is called Wheat. Very simple in design but a great basic plate to add to a plate stack when you need a beige color.

This charger was made by Juliska Ceramics and the pattern was called Berry and Thread in the color Ruby. I like plates with interesting rim designs because it adds something different to the plate stack. I bought these chargers a few at a time over a couple of years until I had the number I needed. I can’t remember where I bought them but it was online and probably from several different sites. This charger is a deeper red than the photo shows, it’s almost a brick red. These plates are no longer in production. If you read my blog you saw them on my Red Barn tablescape.

This black flatware set is Ginkgo International LePrix. I have had it for years but it is still for sale. Not sure where I bought it.

2021.08.28f.jpg

Meg at ME2Designs on Etsy made these school themed napkins for me. I couldn’t find a schoolhouse napkin ring so I temporarily attached a schoolhouse iron on patch that I found on Ebay to a napkin ring I have.

2021.08.28g.jpg

I do love this chalkboard place card holder, such a fun idea especially for this tablescape. I bought them online a few years ago but I can’t remember where. It was probably a wedding supplies site. I have found some cute place card holders on those sites.

2021.08.28i.jpg

The goblet on the left with the black bowl and clear stem was made by Classic Touch and it is called V-Shaped Water Glass, Black With Clear Stem. I bought them at Houzz online a few years ago. These red goblets on the right were made by Cristal D’Arques-Durand and the pattern was called Antique Ruby. They are a pressed glass diamond and fan pattern. I think I bought them years ago a few at a time on Ebay until I had a set. They were made between 1990 and 2008.

2021.08.28j.jpg

I knew I wanted a red schoolhouse for the centerpiece on this tablescape and I looked for a long long time and finally settled on this red schoolhouse bird house that I found on Etsy. It will go in a tree in the backyard later. It is sitting on a wood stand that I bought at Pier 1 a few years ago. The stand was a natural wood color but Hubby painted it white for me to use on one tablescape and then black for a few other tablescapes. I added a small wood apple for fun.

2021.08.28h.jpg

I decided the tablescape needed something on each side of the schoolhouse so I added a couple of small vases with faux berries. I bought the vases online a few years ago but I can’t remember where. They are a perfect match for the chargers.

Children are headed back to school here soon, the summer went really fast.

Pumpkins on a Fall Tablescape

September 01, 2021 by Beth Wilson in Tablescapes

Nothing says Fall like pumpkins and the pumpkins on this tablescape are some of my favorites. I did this tablescape a few years ago but I made a few changes to it this year. I love this tablecloth. I found it at HomeGoods a few years ago and it was one of April Cornell’s. I love some of her fabric designs.

2021.08.31a.jpg

This pumpkin salad plate is from Sur la Table, I bought it a few years ago. I had been looking for a good pumpkin plate for some time and this one was the perfect color, shape, and size.

2021.08.31b.jpg

This dinner plate came from Pier 1 several years ago. It was part of their Spice Route Collection, each plate was named after a spice and this one was called Pumpkin. I have a few other plates in the collection and I often use them on my tablescapes this time of year because they are all perfect fall colors.

2021.08.31c.jpg

These rattan chargers were among some of the first tablescape items I bought several years ago. I think I bought them at World Market but if you google rattan charger you can find similar ones several places online. I like how sturdy they are and the different shades of color. Yes, I know you are not supposed to use a placemat on top of a tablecloth but I have never been one to follow all the rules for tablescaping.

2021.08.31d.jpg

This green flatware is called Madeline Green and I bought it at World Market several years ago. I use this flatware often during the Fall season and into Thanksgiving time as well. I love the frosted green handles. If you read my blog you saw this flatware on my Red Barn tablescape.

2021.08.31e.jpg

This green cotton napkin came from World Market several years ago. When I started tablescaping I bought several sets of napkins at World Market in different fall colors because they were inexpensive. The plastic pumpkin napkin rings came from Ebay a few years ago. You can really see the fall colors on the tablecloth in this photo. I love the different combinations of colors in the leaves.

2021.08.31g.jpg

These orange ceramic pumpkin place name cards came from Hobby Lobby on sale a few years ago. I love the bright orange color. You can use a water-based pen or marker on them that can be erased for future reuse. They are great for labeling food on a buffet also.

2021.08.31f.jpg

I bought the green glass goblets on the left at Pier 1 several years ago. They are my favorite green goblets. I love the height, the color, and the spiral design. They are a prettier green than this photo shows. The amber and green goblet on the right came from Mexico, I bought them online several years ago but I can’t remember where.

2021.08.31j.jpg

I bought a few different lanterns to use as centerpieces when I started tablescaping many years ago and this was one of them. I love the bright orange color and the height. I filled it with faux fall leaves and small pumpkins and gourds.

2021.08.31h.jpg

On each side of the lantern I placed a handblown glass pumpkin. We found them in a gift shop on a trip up the California coast a few years ago. They are thin glass and very delicate and I love them. There is a third one in the set too, a bit smaller.

2021.08.31i.jpg

I love the curlicue green stems.

I love how this tablescape turned out. I am really ready for Fall!

A Red Barn Tablescape for Fall

August 26, 2021 by Beth Wilson in Tablescapes

I love old barns and I especially love old red barns. I drove across the country and back several times over the years and I also took the train back and forth a few times too. (I love road trips and riding trains and I don’t fly.) I would always be fascinated by all the wonderful old barns I saw along the way. This tablescape is a tribute to all of them. I have had this green tablecloth for a couple of years, I bought it on Amazon. I love this color for a Fall tablecloth or for Thanksgiving. I used it on one of my Thanksgiving tablescapes some years ago. It is a green tweed color and it is perfect for the Fall season.

2021.08.22a.jpg

I had seen these red barn plates several times over the years and when I started looking for barn salad plates, they popped up and I knew I wanted to develop a tablescape around them. I bought four of them at Mercari online and three more at Replacements, Ltd. online a few years ago. The designs were copyrighted in 1998 by Warren Kimble for Sakura, New York and the series was called Barns. The salad plates were made between 1998 and 2002 and there were four different barns in the series.

This green stoneware dinner plate came from Pier 1 several years ago. It was part of their Spice Route series and each color was named a different spice. This one was called Clove. I love this plate for Fall and Thanksgiving tablescapes and if you read my blog you see it often during those times of the year. You can read my blog post about what to consider when you are buying dinner plates here.

2021.08.22f.jpg

This charger was made by Juliska Ceramics and the pattern was called Berry and Thread, color Ruby. I like plates with interesting rim designs because it adds something unique to the plate stack. I bought these chargers a few chargers at a time over a couple of years several years ago until I had the number I needed. I can’t remember where I bought them but it was online and probably from several different sites. This charger is a deeper red, almost a brick red. These plates are no longer in production. These barn napkins were made by a seller on Etsy who has made napkin sets for me several times over the past few years, Meg from ME2Designs. When I can’t find napkins to match my tablescape theme I contact Meg and tell her what I am looking for and she finds samples of fabrics and sends me photos to choose from. I told her I wanted barns and she found this fabric and it was perfect for this tablescape. I love all the different barns that are illustrated and I see an outhouse too! The metal red barn napkin rings were a challenge. I ordered them from one place online and they were suddenly on back order. Then I ordered them from another place online and suddenly they were on back order there too. I finally found them at Walmart online a few years ago and I bought them there. To read about the what, where and how of napkin rings please click here.

2021.08.22i.jpg

My daughter-in-law gave me these cute tree place card holders. She used them for a themed party for my son a several years ago and then said I could have them. But she has started tablescaping too so I found a set for me and I will return them to her so she can use them. To read about the what, where and how of place card holders, please click here.

2021.08.22o.jpg
2021.08.22j.jpg

I bought the green acrylic goblet on the left a few years ago online at Home Depot. Home Depot sells tablescaping items. They are made by Certified International. The green acrylic goblet on the right came from Pier 1 several years ago. You can read my blog post about what to consider when you are buying goblets for your tablescaping collection including the colors that I use most often here.

2021.08.22k.jpg

I looked for a long time for a red barn cookie jar and I finally bought this one online at Country Village Shoppe. It needed more height so it is sitting on a couple of my green Depression Glass bowls.

2021.08.22l.jpg

I suddenly remembered this red barn that I received as a gift several years ago and I added it to the tablescape. It was part of Jim Shore’s Heartwood Creek collection and it was called Red Barn, Strength And Plenty. He copyrighted the design in 2004 and it was licensed by Enesco.

2021.08.22m.jpg

To balance the table, on the other side of the centerpiece, I added a Mosser Glass red salt and pepper set that I bought online at The Vermont Country Store a few years ago.

2021.08.22n.jpg
2021.08.22.jpg

We plan another trip across the country maybe next year sometime, more barns to see!

A Shipshape Tablescape

August 19, 2021 by Beth Wilson in Tablescapes

I will start by saying yes, you would remove the centepiece before dining because it blocks the view somewhat. I have been talking to my husband about a tablescape with a ship theme for a while. He found this ship at an estate sale earlier this year and I decided to pull something together. Although you can’t see it in this photo, the tablecloth is a large compass. Hubby was in the commercial GPS navigation business for over 40 years so this tablescape is for him too.

2021.08.16k.jpg

For once I remembered to take a photo of the entire tablecloth before I set the table!

2021.08.16a.jpg

As is my practice when I am looking for something in particular I did a Google search for a salad plate with ships on it and I found these salad plates on Ebay a couple months ago. They were made by Alfred Meakin, Staffordshire, England and the back says, “Fair Winds, original copper engravings depicting historical scenes of Chinese export to America, The George Washington at Anchor”. I don’t usually buy this type of design on a plate but it was perfect for this tablescape.

2021.08.16b.jpg

I bought these heavy melamine cream dinner plates at HomeGoods a few years ago. I also bought the same plate in a deep turquoise color. They were made by IL Mulino New York. If you read my blog you saw them a couple weeks ago on my Palm Trees tablescape.

2021.08.16c.jpg

I have had these beige placemats for several years. They probably came from Pier 1 or World Market.

2021.08.16d.jpg

The amber flatware was made by D & D Inox in Italy. I bought it online at Neiman Marcus or Bloomingdales during a major sale several years ago.

2021.08.16e.jpg

I found the world map napkins on Etsy a few months ago. The ship’s wheel napkin rings came from Etsy as well. They were unfinished wood but Hubby painted them for me. He painted some brown and some navy blue. You might see those next summer.

2021.08.16f.jpg

I wasn’t sure what I wanted for the place card holder but I suddenly thought of a compass and found these on Amazon. They are sitting on a clear glass cube place card holder made by Oleg Cassini that I bought at HomeGoods several years ago.

2021.08.16g.jpg

The brown goblet on the left was made by Lenox between 1966 and 1985. It was called Antique Brown. I bought them on Ebay several years ago. Can’t remember where I bought the amber glass goblets, if anyone recognizes the pattern, please let me know.

2021.08.16i.jpg

Hubby found this ship at an estate sale a few months ago. We had seen some ships at HomeGoods over the summer but there was always something wrong with them, wrong color, wrong size, whatever. When he saw this one he really liked it and he brought it home. The ship colors set the tone for a brown and beige tablescape.

2021.08.16h.jpg
2021.08.16.jpg

I saw some ships come sailing!
