A Summer 4th of July Tablescape

June 17, 2021 by Beth Wilson in Tablescapes

I have had this tablecloth for many years but this is the first time I have used it. I bought it with the matching napkins at Pottery Barn many years ago. I love primary colors and my 4th of July tablescapes are always a true red, white, and blue. The beige on these table linens always stopped me from setting a 4th of July table with them but I decided that it was time to use them or pass them on!

2021.06.16a.jpg

I have had these flag salad plates for a long long time. They were part of my Americana decorations in the family room for many years before we redecorated. They were designed for Brandon House by Warren Kimble and copyrighted in 1998 by Sakura. The pattern was called Spirit of the Flag. There were four different designs in the set. I used three different plate designs on this tablescape.

This is a larger salad plate that could be used as a salad or a dinner plate. I bought them online several years ago at Ballard Designs, they were made by Southern Living. This blue is a great color to use for 4th of July tablescapes.

2021.06.16e.jpg

I was thinking about this tablescape and the tablecloth and I knew I probably wanted to use a beige plate somewhere in the plate stack. I have one but it has a wavy edge and I wanted a simpler shape so I looked online a few years ago and found these simple beige (the color is called wheat) dinner plates at Pottery Barn. They are stoneware and the pattern is called Mason. They are available in several different colors. Pottery Barn is one of my go-to sources for basic good quality plates in neutral colors.

2021.06.16f.jpg

This is one of my favorite red chargers, I have had them for many years. I bought them online a few at a time over several months probably from the Juliska online store. I love the design around the rim. They were made by Juliska and the pattern was called Berry and Thread. I think the red color has been discontinued now.

2021.06.16g.jpg

These dark blue napkins with beige stars came from Pottery Barn many years ago. The frosted cream flatware set was made by D & D Inox in Italy, the pattern was called Roma. I bought it at Neiman Marcus or Bloomingdales during a major sale several years ago. There are similar patterns available online now.

2021.06.16h.jpg

I can’t remember where I bought the metal star place card holders. I have had them for years. The set came with three navy, three red, three turquoise, and three white stars in the set. I used the red and the blue ones on this tablescape.

2021.06.16i.jpg
2021.06.16k.jpg

The blue acrylic goblet on the left came from Pier 1 several years ago. I really like the height and shape of it and I have it in several different colors. Dollar stores sell them sometimes in acrylic and glass. The red iced tea glass goblet on the right was made by Waterford and the pattern was Marquis Brookside. I bought them at HomeGoods many years ago with the matching goblet. They are for sale on Ebay from time to time.

2021.06.16j.jpg

I was trying to find something to use as a centerpiece and I remembered that I had this shallow bowl. I stood it on a fake book decorated with stars and stripes. They both have the same colors as the table linens and salad plates. They were also part of some Americana decorations in our family room before we redecorated. I have had them both for many years, I can’t remember where I found them.

2021.06.16l.jpg

I added a red glass salt and pepper set to the table made by Mosser that I bought online at The Vermont Country Store a few years ago.

I’ll let you in on a little secret about this tablecloth. When I pulled it out and put it on the table to try it out I realized that it was way too wide and the blue stars border wouldn’t show on one side. Hubby helped me fold it in the center just so and line it up so the blue borders matched on each side of the table. The fold is on one of the center stripes and it doesn’t show at all. (I ironed it down so that helped.) Sometimes really large tablecloths are cheaper because people usually have smaller tables so it is good to remember that you may be able to fold them down or cut them down in some way.

An Octopus Tablescape for Summer

June 10, 2021 by Beth Wilson in Tablescapes

I have been planning this octopus tablescape for a long time. I couldn’t decide what color octopus to use but I was leaning toward looking for white ones because I saw this underwater pattern tablecloth on Amazon and I wanted to use it. It is another Ambesonne tablecloth that came with permanent creases but they don’t show on a busy tablecloth so I bought it anyway. I would not recommend buying an Ambesonne tablecloth unless it has a busy pattern that will hide the permanent folds and creases that the tablecloths always seem to come with.

2021.06.09b.jpg

Once I decided on using white octopuses I looked online and found many octopus salad plates but none with a white octopus. I almost gave up when I found these melamine octopus salad plates at Wayfair online. They are called Whitson Octopus and the brand is Rosecliff Heights. I love the octopus graphic and the background colors are perfect with this tablecloth. They pick up all the different blues and turquoises.

2021.06.09c.jpg

This turquoise melamine dinner plate probably came from HomeGoods a few years ago. I like the beaded rim design.

2021.06.09d.jpg

This blue Cambria charger came from Pottery Barn a few years ago. If you read my blog you have seen a red charger like this one often on my tablescapes. Unfortunately Pottery Barn has this pattern on clearance and it won’t be available anymore.

2021.06.09e.jpg

This white Antique Beaded charger came from Williams Sonoma several years ago. If you read my blog you have seen it several times on different tablescapes. It is my go-to charger when I need a white one.

2021.06.09f.jpg

I bought this frosted white flatware set on sale online at Wayfair a few years ago, it was made by Cambridge. It is 18/0 so the fork tines are a bit sharper than they would have been if it was 18/10 but I really liked the frosted white color. Wayfair has really good sales on flatware sometimes.

2021.06.09g.jpg

I found the octopus napkin rings at Walmart online a few months ago. They are made by Fennco Styles and they were dark blue but Hubby painted them white for me. I bought the napkins at our Pier 1 store before it closed a few years ago. I love the multi-colored design because I seem to have many different shades of turquoise, teal, and blue dishes and these napkins match many of them. I often use them on my ocean and beach themed tablescapes.

2021.06.09h.jpg

I am using my white clam shell place card holders on this tablescape. They were made by Andrea by Sadek. I have had them for several years, I can’t remember where I bought them but I see them on Ebay from time to time.

2021.06.09o.jpg
2021.06.09i.jpg

I think the blue glass goblet on the left came from Pier 1 a few years ago. I can’t remember where I found the turquoise acrylic goblet on the right but it may have been Pier 1 as well. I have had it for several years.

2021.06.09k.jpg

I had found a gold brass colored octopus mug holder online that we were going to paint and use for a centerpiece but I really hated to paint it. We were in HomeGoods a couple months ago and I found this one, perfect! I love the spreading waving tentacles! It is sitting on a navy blue Rhodes drink dispenser stand from Pottery Barn.

2021.06.09j.jpg

I found two small plastic white octopuses on Etsy to add to the tablescape on each side of the centerpiece. They were made by a 3D printer.

2021.06.09a.jpg
2021.06.09.jpg

I love the different shades of blues and turquoises on this tablescape. I have always been fascinated watching how octopuses move themselves through water. This was a fun tablescape to pull together, lots of movement here like what goes on in the ocean.

A Lighthouse Tablescape for Summer

June 03, 2021 by Beth Wilson in Tablescapes

I did a different lighthouse tablescape four years ago, you can see that one here. When I saw this tablecloth on Amazon I decided it was time to do another lighthouse tablescape. The colors on this tablecloth say Summer to me.

I didn’t want to use the same lighthouse salad plates that I used before so I looked on Ebay and found this set. There are six different designs and the plates were made by Royal Norfolk.

2021.06.03p.jpg
2021.06.03d.jpg

The white dinner plate was made by Fitz and Floyd and the pattern is called Oakdale White. I bought them at HomeGoodsseveral years ago. I like the braid design around the rim of the plate.

2021.06.03e.jpg

I love this heavy blue glass charger. They were made by Villeroy and Boch and the pattern is Verona. Not sure where I found them. I have had them for several years.

2021.06.03f.jpg

I have read that you are not supposed to set a placemat on top of a tablecloth on a tablescape but I am not one to follow those kind of rules on my informal tables. I bought this placemat at Pier 1 several years ago. I have it in several colors. I wanted to use them on this tablescape to break up the busyness of the tablecloth a bit by added a solid block of color.

2021.06.03g.jpg

This flatware pattern is Milano Red flatware by Ginkgo International Le Prix. I have had this set for several years, not sure where I bought it. You can still find it for sale online.

2021.06.03h.jpg

I found the napkins on Etsy a few years ago, I love the design with the blue ocean background. I found the napkin rings on Ebay a few years ago. From time to time I search Ebay for napkin rings and I always seem to find some interesting ones.

2021.06.03i.jpg

I can’t remember where I bought this white monkey fist knot place card holder. The monkey fist knot was used by sailors to add weight to a rope or cable. Hubby added a small wood circle stand to the bottom of it that he painted white so the knot would stand straight.

2021.06.03j.jpg

The red iced tea glass goblet was made by Waterford and the pattern was Marquis Brookside. I bought them at HomeGoods many years ago. They are on Ebay for sale from time to time. The dark blue acrylic goblets came from Pier 1 on sale a few years ago before our store closed. It’s difficult to see but they have a rope design around the top of the goblet. I often use them on summer ocean themed tablescapes.

2021.06.03k.jpg

I knew I wanted to use a lighthouse for a centerpiece and I found this lighthouse cookie jar on Ebay a few years ago. It’s sitting on a dark blue drink dispenser stand from Pottery Barn that I bought several years ago, to give it more height.

2021.06.03l.jpg
2021.06.03a.jpg

Hubby loves lighthouses probably because he spent his life’s work in navigation and commercial GPS. We took a trip to the Outer Banks a few years ago and we visited a few lighthouses. We want to visit more!

Six Summer Tablescapes Ideas for the 4th of July

May 27, 2021 by Beth Wilson in Tablescapes

I have always loved the color combination of red, white, and blue. For many years our family room was decorated with patriotic colors and designs. Since I started tablescaping several years ago, I have created several 4th of July tablescapes and I decided to repost some of those tablescapes to share again. Maybe they will give you some ideas for your summer holiday tables this year.

2019.05.30 (2).jpg

This tablescape was one of five 4th of July tablescapes that I did in 2019. I called this tablescape Uncle Sam’s Tablescape because of the Uncle Sam pitcher that I used as a centerpiece. Every time I show this tablecloth I get lots of comments about it, people love it as much as I do. The bunting detail down the sides is really unusual. I was browsing on Ebay several years ago looking for vintage tablecloths (I collected them for a while) and this tablecloth popped out. I have never seen another one like it. I love how the white stars stand out against the blue background and the bunting design down the sides is amazing. I suspect the tablecloth was maybe made in the 60’s or 70’s.

2019.05.30j (2).jpg

My Uncle Sam pitcher took center stage as the centerpiece on this tablescape. He is standing on a Rhodes drinks dispenser stand from Pottery Barn that I bought on sale several years ago. I use it often to elevate whatever I am using as a centerpiece. It is just the right height, not too short and not too tall. I actually bought it in a couple other colors too and I have used them all. The stand is resting on three plastic trays I bought on sale online at Sur la Table a few years ago. They match the napkins I used on this table, I must have bought them all at the same time. I love the way the repetition of the design on the trays defines that space. I collected Uncle Sams for a while when the family room was decorated with red, white, and blue and I bought this Uncle Sam pitcher several years ago, can’t remember where. It was made by Department 56. I have always loved pitchers, I think because with a large family we always had one on the table while I was growing up. My mother never allowed a milk carton on the table! My four brothers tried to sneak one on a few times but it never worked. Then they would sometimes put it on the floor next to their chair! I love this pitcher, it is one of my favorites.

This patriotic salad plate is enamelware and I think it’s the only enamel plate in my plate collection. It was made by Golden Rabbit. Can’t remember where I bought it but I have had it for several years. I like the bright colors and bold design. For more information about everything on this Uncle Sam Tablescape please click here.

2019.05.29ee.jpeg

This tablescape was one of the other 4th of July tablescapes I did in 2019. I called it A Stars and Stripes Tablescape because of the stars and stripes on the melamine salad and dinner plates and the tablecloth. I really love this tablecloth, it is a favorite of mine. The napkins and the tablecloth came from Sur la Table several years ago. They are soft and heavy, a really good quality, and I love the simple bold design. I really like the way the stripes on the tablecloth and the stripes on the salad plate copy each other.

2019.05.29w (2).jpg

I have a weakness for patriotic tableware. These salad and dinner plates are melamine and they came from Sur La Table a few years ago. I wait for their after season sales and buy online. Probably because of the pandemic and supply chain issues their stock seems to be not as varied as it has been in the past but maybe it will get better.

2019.05.29s (2).jpg

This set of creamers or small pitchers that I added to this tablescape make me laugh. We are a two political parties household so when I saw this set I had to have them. They are from Fitz and Floyd, I can’t remember where I bought them. I have had them for a long time. For more information about everything on this Stars and Stripes Tablescape please click here.

This is another 4th of July Tablescape from 2019. I called it, Red, White, and Blue for Me and You on the 4th of July. The Heartwood Creek angel centerpiece was designed by Jim Shore in 2003, it is no longer in production. It was called “I Pledge Allegiance To The Flag” and it was licensed by Enesco Group, Inc.. The angel is standing on a Pottery Barn Rhodes drink dispenser stand to give it a bit more height.

2019.06.01h.jpg

I love this angel’s sweet little face. I have a large collection of vintage doilies and I suddenly remembered that I had a few red, white, and blue ones. I really like how this doily centerpiece adds a bit of excitement to this table.

2019.06.01a (2).jpg

The small star appetizer plate and the dinner plate are heavy melamine and they came from Sur La Table several years ago. I like the combination of the wide red and white stripes on the small plate, the small red and white stripes on the dinner plate and the red and white stripes on the napkins.

2019.06.01g (2).jpg

I used my red Waterford Marquis Brookside goblets for this table setting. I think if I were starting a tablescaping hobby, a set of red goblets would be one of my first purchases. They can be used several times a year. I love the fact that they are a bit taller than other goblets and the design goes with everything. I bought the blue goblets at Pier 1 a few years ago. I love this shade of blue and the etched design. I also like the height of these goblets. For more information about everything on this tablescape please click here.

2019.05.31x.jpg

This is another 4th of July tablescape that I did in 2019. I called it Flags and More Flags because of the plates and centerpiece. I really like the contrast between the dark tablecloth and the bright American flags plate stack.

2019.05.31k (3).jpg

This was an easy centerpiece to pull together. I found a large bowl at a garage sale and I bought it because I knew I would be able to use it as a centerpiece in some way sometime. I just put patriotic napkins in it and tucked in small American flags and it was done.

2019.05.31p.jpg

When I bought the napkin rings they were brown but Hubby painted them white for me because I knew I would use them more often if they were white. They are a great match for the stars on these melamine flag plates. I can’t remember where I bought them. It’s good to remember that whatever you are looking at can usually be painted if you need a different color. For more information about everything on this tablescape please click here.

This was another 4th of July tablescape that I did in 2019. This one was called Stars and Stripes and Uncle Sam. I found the tablecloth and napkins at Kohl’s a few years ago. I used one of the Uncle Sams from my collection, a nutcracker, as a centerpiece. You can see items on this tablescape that I have used on some of the other tablescapes.

2019.06.05r.jpg

If you don’t have a napkin ring that works on your tablescape, and you don’t have a design on the salad plate that you don’t want covered, you can fold the napkin around some of the plates and it becomes part of the plate stack design. This is such a colorful plate stack and the napkin really makes it pop. For more information about everything on this tablescape, please click here.

2020.06.17.jpg

This was the 4th of July Tablescape that I did a few years ago. It was called Ready for 4th of July. It is similar to the first tablescape I mentioned that I did for the 4th of July in 2019 but I made a few changes. I added different plates to the plate stack but I used the same enamel patriotic salad plates that I had used the year before.

2020.06.17k.jpg

I bought this flag stand online at Grandin Road a couple years ago. I really love the design, with all the flags it definitely makes a statement!

2020.06.17l.jpg

I have a weakness for small salt and pepper sets and when I saw these patriotic eagles online at Cracker Barrel last year I had to have them. I often add small salt and pepper sets to my tablescapes that help illustrate the theme of the table.

2020.06.17c.jpg

If you look at all these tablescapes you will see that I used this white frosted flatware set on every one. I bought the frosted white flatware on sale online at Wayfair a few years ago, it is made by Cambridge. It is 18/0 (18/10 is the best) so the fork tines are a bit sharper than I would like but I really liked the frosted color. I use this set often. If you are going to buy colored flatware, white is a good color to start with and then I would buy red, black and green. Those seem to be the colors I use the most. For more information about everything on this tablescape please click here.

I hope you have found some inspiration for your holiday tables!
