Gingerbread on a Christmas Tablescape

Ok, I have to admit that this is one of my favorite tablescapes that I have created this year. Unfortunately the photos don’t do it justice. I had been seeing brown gingerbread items everywhere including at Pottery Barn. I was not interested because I already have a wonderful and colorful gingerbread house cookie jar and the brown just didn’t interest me. But then I was browsing through Spoonflower online looking for a Christmas tablecloth and I suddenly saw this Swedish Gingerbread tablecloth and I fell in love with it! I immediately checked Pottery Barn online to see if they still had the gingerbread plates that I had seen a few weeks before and they did so I was off to the races!

I just had to show a photo of this tablecloth so you can see all of the design. I think it is darling! Spoonflower tablecloths are not cheap but I use them over and over again, the fabric is heavy, the graphics are wonderful, and they are well made.

This small gingerbread house appetizer plate came from Pottery Barn online. They sold them last year in a set of four. The color is not accurate here, the brown on the plates is a softer lighter brown color. I think they are so cute!

Because the tablecloth is so busy I wanted blocks of white on the table to break up the busyness. This is one of my basic white dinner plates and I use it when I need a simple white plate. These dinner plates were made by Ralph Lauren and I found them at HomeGoods several years ago when I first started tablescaping. The back is labeled Ralph Lauren Club Porcelain. If you read my blog you have seen this white charger many times. When I need a white charger it is one of the first ones that I try on the plate stack. It is my Antique Beaded charger from William Sonoma that I bought many years ago. The beaded edge just happens to match the design on this tablecloth.

I was going to add an accent color to this tablescape and I often use the flatware color as an accent color but as I set this table I realized that I just wanted the design to be brown and white so I am using my frosted white flatware. I bought this frosted white flatware on sale online at Wayfair several years ago, it was made by Cambridge. It is 18/0 instead of 18/10 so the fork tines are a bit sharper than I would like but I really liked the frosted color. Wayfair has really good sales on flatware sometimes. Just google frosted flatware and the color you are looking for and something will probably pop out somewhere online. I had three different design ideas for napkin rings for this tablescape but I ended up with this one and I really like the way it looks on the table setting. The simple white polyester napkins probably came from Amazon or the TableclothsFactory site online. I have had them for a while. I usually like to buy napkins that are about twenty inches by twenty inches but these are a bit smaller. This napkin ring is actually part of a felt gingerbread house garland that I found on Etsy and took apart. I attached the gingerbread house temporarily with masking tape to a ceramic white napkin ring that I already had. The brown is a perfect match for the brown on this tablecloth although the photos don’t exactly show that. To read about the What, Where and How of napkin rings please click here.

I just love these cute little gingerbread house place card holders that I bought at Pottery Barn last year. The brown color is actually closer in tone to the brown on the tablecloth. It looks darker in this photo. To read about the what, where and how of place card holders, please click here.

I knew that I wanted to use two simple white goblets on this tablescape because of the busy tablecloth and I am really glad that I had twelve of these white goblets in my tablescaping collection so I could use them on this table setting. I found these white goblets at Walmart online a few years ago. They were made by Artland and the pattern is called Veranda. By the time that I decided I was going to pull together this tablescape and I went back to the Pottery Barn site to buy the gingerbread house dishes that I had seen there, the largest of the matching three gingerbread houses that they had was sold out. When they have something really cute for sale it always seems to sell out. When I am looking for something to use as a centerpiece I usually want it to be about 12 inches tall and about that size wide so that it shows better on my large table and the gingerbread houses that they had left were smaller than that. So I did my usual google search to see what else I could find to use as a centerpiece and this Martha Stewart cookie jar popped up on Mercari. I think it actually was made by the same company as the Pottery Barn ones because it looks very similar (and it was cheaper!). I crossed my fingers that the brown color would match what I already had and it did! To make it a bit taller I set it on a wood stand that probably came from Michael’s a few years ago. It was natural wood but Hubby painted it white for me. It was the perfect size for this Gingerbread House tablescape.

When I was searching for a gingerbread house centerpiece I kept seeing this darling Santa and Mrs. Claus gingerbread couple but it was way more money than I wanted to spend. A few days later it popped up on Mercari and because Mercari sells used items it was much cheaper and I grabbed it! I think their faces are so cute!

This Martha Stewart Gingerbread Houses salt and pepper set popped up at JCPenney online a few years ago. It matches the centerpiece!

Poinsettias on a Christmas Tablescape

This is the fourth year in a row that I have created a new Poinsettia Christmas tablescape. You can see the other three here, here, and here. I am sentimental about poinsettias at Christmas time because my mother loved them and always decorated with them during the Christmas season later in her life. I have had this poinsettia tablecloth with the matching napkins for several years and I decided that I needed to either use it or donate it. Now that I see it on a tablescape, it is a keeper! It is polyester and it probably came from HomeGoods. I really like the use of black with the red and green. It is a busy pattern and I bet I will get at least one reader telling me that a solid color tablecloth would have looked better. (Yep, I did!) Why people offer unsolicited advice is beyond me. Sometimes I just like busy!

I found these ceramic poinsettia salad plates at HomeGoods several years ago. I like the bright red color and the shape of them.

This black dinner plate was made by 10 Strawberry Street and it was one of the first dinner plates that I bought when I started tablescaping. I knew I would need a basic black dinner plate. Pulling this tablescape together was a bit of a struggle this week. I was trying to figure out the flatware and accent color with little luck and my daughter stopped by and in about five minutes suggested gold. Of course she was right. Her design sense is so much better than mine! This gold plated flatware was a gift from Hubby a few Christmases ago. I had bought a cheap set of gold flatware several years ago. It was poor quality and the gold started flaking off. You get what you pay for! We found this set on major sale at Macys. It is made by Wallace and is called Mikasa Duchess Gold. I love the design, a bit fussy but not too fussy. You can read my blog post about what to consider when you are buying flatware here.

This hammered gold colored napkin ring was made by DII and I bought them on Amazon several years ago. I bought the polyester poinsettia napkins with the tablecloth at HomeGoods several years ago.

This gold spiral place card holder probably came from a wedding supply site online. I have had it for a while.

I love these goblets and this is the first time that I have used the red ones on a tablescape. I hadn’t inventoried them and taken photos of them to add to my goblets folder and they are stored in my hutch instead of the garage where I store most of my goblets so I kind of forgot about them! Both goblets came from Williams Sonoma online. The green goblet on the left is prettier than the photo shows, it shows more black in the photo instead of the darkish Kelly Green color that it is actually. I love the etched pine cone design. The pattern is called Christmas Pine Cone Cut and they were selling it in red and green when I bought them a few years ago. They are hand cut and hand painted. The red cut glass goblet on the right came from Williams Sonoma as well last year. The pattern is called Wilshire Jewel Cut. They are hand cut and hand painted and there are four in the set with different hand cut designs on the bowl on each one. I often use faux poinsettias on my tablescapes but these poinsettias are real. Keep in mind that although poinsettias aren’t poisonous for humans and animals they can cause stomach problems and rashes so be aware. I wanted to put these poinsettias in a gold vase but after a comedy of errors I ended up with a black matte pottery vase that I have had for several years. One definitely has to be flexible when creating tablescapes! I did add a bit of gold with a thin beaded garland scattered around the bottom.

Christmas Trees on a Christmas Tablescape

This is the second Christmas Tree themed tablescape that I have done. I did a different one two years ago with a few of the same elements but this table setting is different. You can see that tablescape here. This tablecloth came from Amazon a few years ago. If you read my blog you know that my favorite Christmas colors are red and green and I always create one or two tablescapes at Christmas time using those colors. They were my mother’s favorite Christmas colors and using them during the holiday season reminds me of her. I like the small green Christmas trees on this red plaid tablecloth. I often use a red plaid or red gingham tablecloth during the Christmas season.

I had been looking for a Christmas Tree shaped salad plate that I liked for several years and last year I got lucky. Both Target and Michaels were selling this Christmas Tree salad plate. I love the shape, the different colors, and the yellow star on top. The back of the plate says 90 Years of Holiday Magic, Mr. Christmas, 1933 - 2023.

These red dinner plates are made by Fiesta and the color is Scarlet. This pattern and color are actually our every day dishes and I use them often on my Christmas tablescapes. You can read about what you need to think about when you are buying dinner plates here.

Hubby bought these chargers at the Dollar Store last year and spray-painted them Kelly Green for me so that I could use them on my Christmas tablescapes.

This Milano Red flatware is Ginkgo International LePrix. I have had this set for years but it is still for sale. Not sure where I bought it. I now have it in other colors as well. I found these Christmas Tree napkin rings on Amazon a couple of years ago. I like the small red balls on them. The green polyester napkins also came from Amazon a few years ago. When I am looking for something for my tablescapes I google whatever it is and something perfect often pops out. I do most of my tablescape shopping online. I had been looking for a darker green glass goblet for quite a while and I finally decided to buy these green glass goblets on the left several years ago. They are made by Mosser Glass in the U.S.. They are a bit shorter than I usually buy but I love the color. The pattern is called Arlington and the color is Hunter Green. I bought them a few at a time over several months. They are really heavy glass and very good quality. The red goblet on the right is called Fortessa Carousel. I bought them several years ago online but I can’t remember where. This Christmas Tree cookie jar centerpiece came from Pier 1 online a couple of years ago. I put it on a red drink dispenser stand from Pottery Barn to give it a bit more height.

I bought this Mosser Glass Panel Hunter Green salt and pepper set online at Everything Kitchens last year.

I decided to also add a Mosser Glass red salt and pepper set to this tablescape. I bought this set online at The Vermont Country Store a couple of years ago. The Mosser Glass Company was established in 1971 and it is located in Cambridge, Ohio. They sell high quality American made glassware and I love their products. I have a few sets of their goblets and a few cake stands too.

I love mixing red and green together on a tablescape at Christmas time!

Elves on a Christmas Tablescape

This Elves tablescape has been over a year in the making. I bought the napkin rings last year and then spent months looking for everything else. The tablecloth came from Spoonflower online a few months ago. My favorite Christmas colors to decorate with are a true Christmas Red and Kelly Green so I was looking for those colors.

These elf shoe appetizer plates were made by Boston Warehouse and they are marked 2005. I bought them on Ebay last year. There are three different color designs. I love the gold bells and all the stripes and polka dots!

This dinner plate was made by Fiesta and the color is Shamrock. It is one of my favorite green dinner plates, I love the bright green color. Unfortunately this color has been discontinued but you may still be able to find them on the secondary market. I love the design of this dinner plate, I have it in other colors as well. I found these cute plastic elf napkin rings on Etsy last year. I bought three boy elves and three girl elves. I found the green napkins on Amazon a few years ago.

It was a struggle to find an elf place card holder and I finally settled on this elf toy. It is actually a small car with wheels. I just set them on a Oleg Cassini clear glass place card holder. I bought the place card holders at HomeGoods several years ago when I first started tablescaping. They are heavy and solid and I really like the simple design. The green goblet on the left came from Macy’s a few years ago. The pattern is Qualia Glass Meridian. I like the height and the beautiful green color. I think the red glass goblet on the right came from Crate and Barrel a few years ago. I had been looking for some simple red goblets and grabbed these when I saw them online. When we travel out of state we always seem to eat at Cracker Barrel a few times. I love their gift shop area and when I discovered that they have an online store I was really happy. From time to time I check their web store and I discovered this elf cookie jar a few months ago. I had been looking for some kind of elf centerpiece for a year and I quickly bought it! I set it on a red drink dispenser stand that I bought at Pottery Barn several years ago to give it a bit more height.

When I saw the matching elf salt and pepper set I bought them as well. They remind me of the pixie figures that were popular in the 50’s.

I found this three piece elf set online at Walmart. I bought two sets, one for each side of the centerpiece. I like their cute little faces and the bright colors.

It can’t be Christmas without a few elves wandering around!
