A Tomatoes Tablescape

August 26, 2020 by Beth Wilson in Tablescapes

There is nothing better than a home grown tomato. After seeing so many people taking up vegetable gardening I am going to plant some fruits and vegetables next year! I have had these tomato salad plates for several years and I had been looking for something to use as a centerpiece on a tomato table setting. After I saw this tomato tureen I knew I had my centerpiece. I’m not sure where the black and white gingham tablecloth came from but Amazon has lots of gingham tablecloths in different colors for sale. My daughter helped with some of the design elements for this table while social distancing standing in the doorway.

These tomato salad plates came from Sur La Table several years ago. I was sorry to see this morning that my nearby store is closing. I’m hoping that they will still have an online store.

This green dinner plate came from Pier 1 many years ago. It was part of their Spice Route collection and the color was called Clove. This shade of green is a great shade for Fall tables and I use it frequently during the fall season.

2020.08.26n.jpg

This black glass Starburst charger is called Charge It and they were made by Jay. I bought them several years ago on Amazon. They are heavy glass and a simple design and they work well with many different color schemes.

2020.08.26b.jpg

This Milano Red flatware is Ginkgo International LePrix. I have had this set for years but it is still for sale. Not sure where I bought it. I use it several times a year on tablescapes. The simple design is perfect with this busy tablecloth.

I have had the black napkin rings for several years. They came from Sur La Table, World Market or Pier 1 probably. The black napkins probably came from Amazon several years ago. I had someone on Etsy make the tomato napkins for me. I love this fabric! They only had four napkins but they found some similar fabric for the other two. If you look closely at the table you can see the difference between the two patterns. My daughter suggested that I place one napkin on top of the other napkin and I really like the way they look here.

I went through several different ideas for place card holders before I settled on this one. I found the small plastic tomatoes online at Factory Direct Craft and Hubby cut a slit in them for the card. I wanted more height so I put them on my Oleg Cassini crystal place card holders that I found at HomeGoods several years ago.

I have used this red and black goblet combination many different times on different tablescapes. I bought these black goblets on Ebay and they were one of the first sets that I bought several years ago. They are Lenox Midnight Mood black glass water goblets and they were made between 1974 and 1982. They are 7 1/4 inches tall. When I started buying goblets I didn’t pay attention to the height but now I like to buy goblets that are at least about 8 inches tall because my table is large and I think they show better. You can still find them on Ebay from time to time. I am using my red Waterford Marquis Brookside goblets on this table. I really love this glassware. It is well made, heavy, and a true red color. I bought them at HomeGoods several years ago. You can still find them on Ebay from time to time too. I use this red goblet more than any other goblet in my collection probably because red is a favorite color.

I found this tomato tureen on sale at Williams Sonoma online last month. I really love it. It was made in Portugal by Bordallo Pinheiro. It is sitting on a wood stand that I bought at Pier 1 this spring. It was a natural wood color but Hubby painted it white for me to use on my Beach tablescape and then black for this table and a couple Halloween tables that are coming.

2020.08.26e.jpg

I wanted another pop of red on this table so I added two red ball candles to the table to mimic red tomatoes. I found them on Amazon. I have bought many many different colors and shapes of candles on Amazon over the years. Candles can be difficult to find in stores if they aren’t common colors and shapes.

Red and black is one of my favorite tablescape color combinations. You can see it on my Playing Cards tablescape here and my Miss Blackbirdy Valentine tablescape here. I love the way these colors interact on this table. Time to start researching tomato seed varieties!

A Vintage Old Country Rose Tablescape

August 19, 2020 by Beth Wilson in Tablescapes

I had seen this bone china pattern, Old Country Rose, before on several tablescaping pages but I never thought about buying it. My good buddy acquired a set from someone and asked if I wanted to buy it. I don’t usually buy sets of dishes, just individual pieces, but I decided to do it just this once. Once I saw it, it was so much prettier than I thought it would be, I was so glad that I had bought it. This Royal Albert bone china pattern was introduced in 1962 and is still in production although production was moved from England to Asia around 2000. You can tell by the maker’s backstamp on the back of the dish when your dishes were made. My backstamp indicates that mine were made in England at the beginning of production from 1962 until 1974 when the backstamp changed.

Backstamp used from 1962 until 1974.

I love the three different colors of roses and the 22K gold banding.

2020.08.03p.jpg

The set included dessert, salad, and dinner plates.

2020.08.03q.jpg

My mother loved roses and these dishes remind me of her. My daughter has a beautiful rose garden as well.

2020.08.03s.jpg

This gold plated flatware was a gift from Hubby last Christmas season. I had bought a cheap set of gold flatware several years ago. It was poor quality and the gold started flaking off. You get what you pay for! We found this set on major sale at Macy’s last year. It is made by Wallace and is called Mikasa Duchess Gold. It is brighter than this photo shows and it is heavy. I decided to use it on this table to match the gold banding on the plates and to give the tablescape a vintage feel.

2020.08.03e.jpg

I found these gold place card holders on Amazon early this year. They were made by Gray Bunny.

2020.08.03v.jpg

The clear goblet on the left is my wedding crystal, Lismore by Waterford. The clear goblet on the right is actually the pattern my mother chose for her wedding crystal in 1938. She couldn’t remember the name of the pattern or who made it and I searched for decades trying to identify it with no luck. Finally one day I was reading through old San Bernardino newspapers online doing some genealogical research looking for information about my grandparents and I stumbled on an article about a wedding shower for my mother that mentioned her gifts and the name of her crystal! This Rock Sharpe crystal goblet was made by Libbey and the pattern was called Ridgeway. I was able to complete the set buying them a few at a time on Ebay.

2020.08.03g.jpg

I don’t usually have a matching cream and sugar set but because I was buying a set, they were included as well as a couple of serving pieces.

2020.08.03l.jpg
2020.08.03h.jpg

Hubby found this cut glass salt and pepper set at an Estate Sale last year.

2020.08.03i.jpg

Since this table is full of vintage pieces I decided to use my white California pottery vase that was my mother’s. I have a matching second one as well. I think they were wedding gifts to her in 1938. All the faux roses came from Amazon and I tried to match the roses on the plates.

2020.08.03x.jpg

The sage green tablecloth and napkins are vintage damask and I bought them on Ebay several years ago. I love the rose design in the damask fabric.

2020.08.03j.jpg

You can see the centerpiece white vase and gold flatware on another tablescape that I did with a vintage lighter green damask tablecloth here.

2020.08.03z.jpg

I love these dishes, I am so glad that I bought them!

A Sunflower Tablescape

August 12, 2020 by Beth Wilson in Tablescapes

I have had a sunflower tablescape in the back of my mind for over a year. I have two different sunflower salad plates and I decided to use this one this year. I found the tablecloth on Amazon. It’s a bit busy but I think it works here. You seldom see a single sunflower, they tend to be in bunches and this table gives a sense of that.

2020.08.12l.jpg

I bought these sunflower salad plates at Pier 1 a few years ago. The other sunflower salad plates I have are yellow and I think these look a bit more realistic colorwise.

2020.08.12m.jpg

The dinner plates came from Pier 1 several years ago. They were part of their Spice Route Collection and I think this color was clove. They came in several different colors and I have a few of the other colors too. I often use these plates on Fall tablescapes. You can see them on another Fall tablescape here.

2020.08.12d.jpg

I bought these iced glass sage chargers at Pier 1 several years ago after I saw them on another blog. I love using them in the spring and fall.

2020.08.12b.jpg

Using my Madeline Green flatware again on this table, I bought it at World Market several years ago. I really like the frosted design on the handles. If you read my blog you saw it on my Watermelon and Beach tablescapes. After red, I think green is the most used color on my tablescapes because it can be used during the Spring and Fall seasons.

2020.08.12c.jpg

I ordered some sunflower napkin rings but they weren’t going to get here in time so I ordered these felt sunflower heads from Oriental Trading and temporarily attached them to some tortoise shell napkin rings that I have with masking tape. The green napkins came from World Market online several years ago.

2020.08.12h.jpg
2020.08.12e.jpg

These yellow ceramic sunflower name cards came from Hobby Lobby a couple years ago. You can use a water-based pen or marker on them that can be erased for future reuse. They had pumpkins and brown leaves also and you will probably see them on future tablescapes.

2020.08.12i.jpg
2020.08.12f.jpg

I bought the green acrylic goblets last year online at Home Depot. Home Depot now sells tablescaping items! They are made by Certified International. The amber and green glass goblets came from Mexico, I bought them online several years ago but I can’t remember where.

2020.08.12g.jpg

I saw this MacKenzie-Childs watering can on another blogger’s (Life and Linda) tablescape a couple years ago and loved it and she was kind enough to share the maker’s name with me. It is made of green metal and I love the way it looks on this tablescape. I added some faux sunflowers to complete the centerpiece.

A Summer Watermelon Tablescape

August 05, 2020 by Beth Wilson in Tablescapes

I’ve had these watermelon salad plates for several years but I never used them on a tablescape until now. I kind of forgot that I had them! I think I bought the red and white large check print tablecloth at HomeGoods a few years ago. Red and green are one of my favorite color combinations. You can see a couple other tablescapes I have created with that color scheme here and here.

2020.08.05c.jpg

I can’t remember where I bought these watermelon salad plates and there is no mark on the back.

2020.08.05d.jpg

This Shamrock dinner plate is made by Fiesta. I bought them several years ago at Macy’s.

2020.08.05e.jpg

The charger was made by Mikasa and is called Color Spectrum in Hunter Green. I love this charger, it is heavy and a great color. I have several others in other colors. I bought them all a few at a time on Ebay.

2020.08.05b.jpg

I am using my Madeline Green flatware on this table, I bought it at World Market several years ago. I really like the frosted design on the handles. There are lots of different colored frosted flatware sets for sale right now online at various places.

2020.08.05f.jpg

I bought these Whyalla Watermelon print napkins online at Wayfair four years ago. I was looking for a bold design and these worked! I found the vintage watermelon napkin rings on Ebay then too.

2020.08.05g.jpg
2020.08.05h.jpg

I found these watermelon boxes online at Oriental Trading four years ago. I knew they would work well on this table as place card holders. They could hold a small party favor too.

2020.08.05p.jpg
2020.08.05i.jpg

I used my red Waterford Marquis Brookside goblets for this table setting. I bought them at HomeGoods several years ago. If you read my blog you have seen this goblet on many different tablescapes. The green glass goblets come from The Vermont Country Store online. They are made by Mosser in the U.S. and the pattern is Georgia. They are really heavy glass and very good quality. I have bought a few at a time over the years until I had a set. I also have them in cobalt blue. They come in red as well.

2020.08.05k.jpg

Just for fun I added my Circle pattern green Depression Glass cream and sugar. I bought them many many years ago on Ebay or at an antique mall.

2020.08.05l.jpg

I added my Circle pattern green Depression Glass salt and pepper too. They came from Ebay many years ago.

2020.08.05j.jpg

I was randomly searching on Etsy a few years ago for anything watermelon related that I could use as a centerpiece and found this painted half gallon Mason jar. I added some faux geraniums and it was done!

2020.08.05o.jpg

I just love red and green together!

2020.08.05m.jpg
2020.08.05n.jpg

We definitely need watermelon for dinner!
