A Mermaids coming for Dinner Tablescape

June 03, 2020 by Beth Wilson in Tablescapes

I had been wanted to create a mermaid tablescape for a long time and I finally got it done. The camera is fighting with some of the colors on this Mermaid Tablescape unfortunately. For example, the goblets and the lime green napkins are actually a similar color tone but not in this photo! I love this unusual tablecloth, the blue colors change across the tablecloth. Doesn’t it look like waves coming into shore? It came from Amazon a few years ago.

These melamine mermaid salad plates were made by Cynthia Coulter Designs. I bought them a few years ago online at Wilford & Lee Home Accents. I used the colors on the plate to select the rest of the table colors.

This smaller square white dinner plate is unmarked, they probably came from HomeGoods. My plate collection is mostly round plates but I am trying to gather a few square ones in basic colors and sizes when I find them for a good price.

These seaglass square chargers came from Bealls online a few years ago. Turquoise and seafoam are two colors I struggle with, there are just so many different shades and tones for these two colors. It is always serendipity if I end up with two things that match! I suspect these plates aren’t going to match much else!

I bought this frosted white flatware on sale online at Wayfair a few years ago, it was made by Cambridge. I use it often in the summer on my Ocean themed tables. Here it is on my Crabby Table .

These white mermaid napkins rings came from Walmart and Amazon a few years ago, they both had them. The lime green napkins were made by Fiesta, not sure where I got the blue napkins.

These clam shell place card holders were made by Andrea by Sadek. I bought them online a few years ago but I can’t remember where. You can see just a bit of them here on my Whale of a Table tablescape.

The green spiral goblets came from Pier 1 several years ago. They are some of my favorites. Unfortunately when I went to get them for this table, one was broken, so sad! The turquoise acrylic goblet on the left came from Pier 1, I have them in several colors.

I was looking for a mermaid to use as a centerpiece for a long time. Hubby was at a nursery looking at plants and found this one, she was a gray concrete color but I knew I was going to paint her. My hubby would love to tell you how many different colors she was before I finally gave up trying to match sea greens and turquoises and just decided to paint her white! She is solid and really heavy (she weights 25 pounds) and she will probably end up somewhere in the garden eventually. Can’t remember where I got the netting, I’ve had it for a while.

I love shopping at Cracker Barrel, I wish there was one close to us. I found this mermaid salt and pepper set online there a few mouths ago.

I bought these small mermaids on Ebay a few years ago. I think they are supposed to be for fairy gardens.

A Lobsters for Dinner Tablescape

May 27, 2020 by Beth Wilson in Tablescapes

This tablescape idea started about a year ago when I found and bought some small melamine salad plates shaped like red lobsters. I had done some other sea creatures tablescapes and decided to do a lobster table too. I spent the next several months looking for items for the rest of the lobster table and found the napkins and place card holders this spring. Then I got out the lobster plates, and they were the wrong shade of red… So the hunt for a different lobster salad plate began. I think the denim blue tablecloth came from Crate and Barrel or Sur La Table several years ago.

2020.05.27c.jpg

When I am looking for a specific item for a tablescape (after I search Amazon) I often do a Google search for it because that pulls up lots of different examples for sale at various places for various prices. That’s what I did last month for these ceramic lobster salad plates. They popped out from Wayfair on sale. They were made by Certified International and they are called Nautical Life by Lisa Audit. They were just the colors I was looking for, I got lucky.

2020.05.27d.jpg

This dinner plate is part of our every day set of dishes. It is made by Fiesta and the color is Scarlet. If you read my blog you have seen Fiesta plates of various colors and sizes in many different tablescapes. I have bought them over the years on sale at Macys and on the Fiesta Factory Direct web site.

2020.05.27e.jpg

This charger is another one of my Color Spectrum chargers made by Mikasa, the color is Royal Blue. I bought them a few at a time on Ebay. I have them in several colors. These are actually some of my favorite chargers. I love the strong solid colors and they are good quality.

2020.05.27b.jpg

This Milano Red flatware is Ginkgo International LePrix. I have had this set for years but it is still for sale. Not sure where I bought it. I seem to use it often on tablescapes when I want something a bit more informal.

2020.05.27f.jpg

I bought these Kay Spade lobster napkins on Ebay after looking at many different designs online. I couldn’t find any red lobster napkin rings so I bought some small plastic lobsters online at Oriental Trading and some wooden rings and Hubby painted them and glued them together for me.

2020.05.27g.jpg
2020.05.27h.jpg

I found these vintage lucite and acrylic lobster place card holders after searching on Ebay. They were orange but Hubby painted them for me so they would match the other parts of the table setting. I love looking for vintage napkin rings and place card holders on Ebay. I find things that I would never find anywhere else.

2020.05.27k.jpg

And here again are my red Waterford Marquis Brookside goblets, I use them so often on different table settings. We bought them at HomeGoods a few years ago. I usually buy dishes and glassware in sets of 12 and I saw these and started putting them in my cart and after looking around I finally found 12, that was all they had. So many people have commented and asked about them. They are for sale on Ebay from time to time. I bought the same pattern in iced teas on Ebay later. I think I use this goblet more than any other goblet I have. The dark blue acrylic goblets came from Pier 1 on sale last month. It’s difficult to see but they have a rope design around the top of the goblet. It looks like they are sold out of them now since they are going out of business.

2020.05.27j.jpg

I looked for a year for some kind of red lobster to use as a centerpiece and finally bought this one on Etsy this spring. It is somewhat flat and is supposed to go on a wall but the metal bends and I knew I could put it on one of my large shells or fake coral. I think the fake coral came from HomeGoods several years ago. It was a weird beige color but Hubby painted it white for me soon after I bought it.

2020.05.27i.jpg

I wanted a bit more red on the table so I added my Fiesta salt and peppers. I had found some lobster salt and peppers but I forgot to order them! I’m thinking about buying a few more Fiesta sets of these salt and peppers in different colors because they are handy to have for table settings when you want to add a bit more pop of color.

020.05.27l.jpg
2020.05.27.jpg

Definitely need some lobster rolls for dinner!

A Starfish and the Sea Tablescape

May 20, 2020 by Beth Wilson in Tablescapes

I love walking along the beach looking for shells and sea glass. I have been thinking about creating a starfish themed table for a while. I wanted a beachie print turquoise tablecloth and I finally found this one on Amazon a couple years ago. It reminds me of how the ocean looks as the waves meet the shore. The camera is showing all the blues as blue rather than the blue green turquoise tone that they really are but at least it all looks beachie.

2020.05.20c.jpg

I was so happy to see these melamine white starfish plates at Pottery Barn a few years ago and when they went on sale I grabbed them. I had been looking for small white starfish plates for a couple of years. I usually have several different tablescape ideas in mind at any given time waiting to find different pieces to add to the table and sometimes it takes a year or even two to gather everything that I want for a certain theme.

2020.05.20d (2).jpg

These turquoise melamine salad plates came from HomeGoods a couple years ago. They were made by IL Mulino New York. HomeGoods always has melamine dinnerware in the spring in lots of different patterns for summer dining. You can read my blog post about what to consider when you are buying salad plates here.

These white dinner plates came from Pottery Barn a few years ago, the pattern was called Seashore. I love the starfish and shells around the rim. These are large dinner plates (11”) so they can be used as chargers as well as dinner plates. You can read about what you need to think about when you are buying dinner plates here.

2020.05.20f.jpg

I have had these turquoise blue glass charger plates for several years, I think I bought them on Amazon. They were made by Bormioli Rocco, an Italian company, and the pattern was called Inca. I have them in a few other colors as well. They are heavy glass and I really love how solid they are. The goblet in this photo shows the accurate turquoise color of everything. Not sure why the camera got that right just in this photo and the other blues in all the photos are still off. To read about what you should be considering when you are buying chargers please click here.

2020.05.20b (3).jpg

I bought this frosted white flatware on sale online at Wayfair a few years ago, it was made by Cambridge. It is 18/0 instead of 18/10 so the fork tines are a bit sharper than I would like but I really liked the frosted color. Wayfair has really good sales on flatware sometimes. You can read my blog post about what to consider when you are buying flatware here.

2020.05.20g.jpg

I think the napkins came from Pier 1 several years ago, I love the intense turquoise color. I bought the napkin rings at Bed, Bath and Beyond a few years ago. They were distressed white but Hubby painted them white for me. I am not a fan of distressed anything! To read about the What, Where and How of napkin rings please click here.

2020.05.20h.jpg

I think these starfish place card holders maybe came from either Pottery Barn or Crate and Barrel. I have had them for a few years waiting for the rest of the table to develop. I have used them before on a couple other ocean theme tables. To read about the What, Where and When of place card holders, please click here.

2020.05.20i.jpg

The turquoise acrylic goblet on the left came from Pier 1 several years ago, I have them in several colors. On the right is a Waterford goblet but one of their less expensive patterns, I think it is Marquis by Waterford Brookside. I bought them at HomeGoods. You can read my blog post about what to consider when you are buying goblets for your tablescaping collection including the colors that I use most often here.

2020.05.20j.jpg

These glass pillar candle holders probably came from Pottery Barn or Crate and Barrel. When I started tablescaping several years ago some of the first things I bought were various sizes and shapes of candle holders. HomeGoods is a good source for candle holders of all kinds and candles as well.

2020.05.20k.jpg

I found the large white shell centerpiece at HomeGoods several years ago. It usually sits on a shelf in the family room. HomeGoods often has large objects that make perfect centerpieces. I filled it with some plastic packing material for filler and then added sea glass, sea shells and starfish on top. I love the way the white looks against the turquoise blue.

2020.05.20l.jpg

This photo shows the tablecloth well, it reminds me so much of small ocean swells moving toward the shore.

2020.05.20r.jpg

The phone camera shows this photo with green and teal tones and as the other photos show it is all more turquoise.

After pulling this tablescape together, I can’t wait to get back to walking on the beach!

Traveling the World, Hubby's 48 Countries and Territories on the Tablescape

May 13, 2020 by Beth Wilson in Tablescapes

Hubby is retiring this year after working over 48 years, much of it in the commercial GPS satellite navigation business (think ships, construction equipment, and tractors, not cars). He was there when GPS started. His work sent him all over the world including 44 countries and 4 territories. Early on, I started giving him a flag at Christmas time for every country and territory he visited. (Our sons have joined the same tradition.) Eventually, I had to find a much larger flag stand for them all and that’s what you see here. He recently brought them all home from work and I decided to create a tablescape around the flags. I started with a simple white tablecloth that I bought on Amazon last year. Since most of the flags are white, blue, and red, I decided to use those colors for the plates and glasses.

2020.05.13l.jpg

We use these small square red appetizer plates almost every day for snacks and such. They came from Pottery Barn a few years ago and they still have them, in other colors too. The pattern is Cambria. (They are on sale today, 05/13/20.)

2020.05.13.jpg

These red melamine salad plates came from Crate and Barrel a few years ago.

2020.05.13a.jpg

I wanted to use a square plate somewhere on the plate stack to mirror the straight edges of the flags. These small square white salad plates aren’t marked but I bought them at HomeGoods a few years ago.

2020.05.13b.jpg

I bought these large cobalt blue dinner or charger plates online at Ballard Designs a few years ago. They were part of their Southern Living collection and they are heavy!

2020.05.13o.jpg

This black glass Starburst charger is called Charge It and they were made by Jay. I bought them several years ago on Amazon. They are heavy glass and a simple design and they work well with many different color schemes.

2020.05.13c.jpg

This black flatware is Ginkgo International LePrix. I have had this set for years but it is still for sale. Not sure where I bought it.

2020.05.13d.jpg

I really wanted to use some napkins that had a travel theme so I searched Etsy and found these last week. I folded a couple more to use as a runner on the table. I love the design! The napkin rings were really simple. I had the black napkin rings and I just attached some world flag pins to them temporarily that I bought onlne at Oriental Trading last week.

2020.05.13m.jpg

These are make do place card holders! I added flags (off of necklaces) that I bought at Oriental Trading to my Olga Cassini clear place card holders. Find your place by country!

2020.05.13e.jpg

I used my red Waterford Marquis Brookside goblets for this table setting. I bought them at HomeGoods several years ago. If you read my blog you have seen this goblet in many tablescapes. I think if I were starting a tablescaping hobby, a set of red goblets would be one of my first purchases. They can be used several times a year. The dark blue acrylic goblets came from Pier 1 on sale last month. I bought them to use on a beachie tablescape coming up but they work well here too.

2020.05.13g.jpg

I bought the flags online from different companies over the years and the stand came from one of those companies too many years ago.

2020.05.13f.jpg
2020.05.13h.jpg
2020.05.13n.jpg

A simple table design, the flags take center stage!
